About

Project Zomboid is an open-ended zombie survival game where the interesting part is the failure. You are dropped into a fictional Kentucky town with nothing, and everything you own you carried there yourself. There is no quest marker pointing you at the next objective, only a map, a can opener, and whatever you manage to loot before dark.

What makes this title unusual for tracking is how rarely it sits still. Build 42 introduced the 2023 map, multiplayer stability work, and a long tail of vehicle fixes that each shipped as their own hotfix. A "next update" on a game like this is rarely a single event with a trailer. It is a rolling sequence of patches, most of which have no announced date at all.

So the date on this page should be read as a checkpoint, not a promise. When Keen Games ships, the patch notes land in public within minutes and the specifics are usually worth more than the date itself. This is a game where watching the actual notes beats watching the countdown.

Worth knowing if you are coming back after a break: the 2023 map made Kentucky far bigger than anything before it, and the vehicle population roughly tripled. Older guides written before that release describe a much smaller and much less dangerous map than the one you are walking today.
